US / EU Tariff
Background
EU - Since Jul 1, 2026 all picaxestore.com orders shipped to the EU became subject to tariffs and VAT (and the associated fees from the postal services). A flat tariff fee of EUR 3 applies to each commodity code within the order (for instance a cable and a chip are two separate commodity codes, meaning a 6 EUR tariff charge). Previously all orders under EUR 150 were exempt.
US - Since August 29, 2025 all picaxestore.com orders shipped to the US became subject to 10% tariffs (and the associated fees from the postal services). Previously all orders under $800 were exempt.
PICAXE microcontrollers use US fab silicon, but are manufactured in the UK, so are subject to the UK duty tariff.
Individual components that are sourced from other countries (typically China or Taiwan) may receive a higher tariff duty rate.
What is DDP - Delivery Duty Paid? (US only)
With DDP shipping the tariff duties are added into the unit price displayed and therefore collected by picaxestore.com as part of the order payment.
We then pay this duty to the postal service on your behalf, who then in turn pay it on to the Customs.
DDP parcels should be processed by Customs quickly and there are no other additional charges for duty at import or delivery.
What is DDU - Delivery Duty Unpaid?
With DDU shipping no tariff duty is added to the basket or processed by picaxestore.com.
The customer will need to pay the VAT (tax) and/or duty and/or tariff plus a handling charge, directly to the postal service (e.g. USPS or FedEx) within the before the parcel is delivered.
This payment process can take considerable time, delaying the parcel. Please ensure both your contact email and telephone number are correct so that the postal service may contact you to request the payment.
